Armenian Olympians’ first day is over
Posted 28-07-2012
Judoist Hovhannes Davtyan was probably the closest to scoring a medal out of the 3 Olympians that were competing with each other.
After scoring three consecutive victories, the Armenian athlete lost to Italian Olympian Elio Verde in the quarter final, but didn’t lose the chance to continue. He went against French Olympian Sofian Milous to score the bronze medal, but lost to his opponent due to two violations. We mention that Davtyan had lost the previous competition in the same way.

Another Armenian Olympian, gymnast Artur Davtyan started from the vaulting stage and scored 82.865 points. Artur successfully completed all the exercises on 6 tools and is now in 8th place. British Olympian Christian Thomas is still the leader in vaulting with 90.256 points, and only the 24 top athletes will move on to the finals.

The next stage for qualification will take place today at 23:00 and will be followed by the finals on August 1.

Sport shooter Norayr Bakhtamyan is in 16th place among the 44 participants of the air pistol competition. However, that wasn’t enough for him to make it to the finals. Only the 8 top shooters were able to cross the threshold. Bakhtamyan scored 579 out of the possible 600 points with six shots.

Bakhtamyan’s next shooting will take place on August 5 when he will compete in the 50 m air pistol shooting.

The first London Olympic gold medalist, Xi Silin won in the 10 m pneumatic pistol sport shooting.

A record was set on the very first day of the Olympics by none other than half-blind South Korean archer Dong-Hyun Im. The athlete scored 699 points, which is a record-setting indicator in this sport.
