Armenian schoolchildren participated with their knowledge of sports.
The British Council organized a “Treasure Hunt” with 30 students of five schools, including schools of Gyumri and Noyemberyan ahead of the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The students will focus on the symbols of the Olympic Games and the reflection of the world’s number one athletic event in the arts. To win the “Treasure Hunt” athletic event, students ranging from the ages of 13 and 16 answered questions in English, completed the assignments and had to guess the hidden word after being given a clue letter after giving the right answers to the questions.
Besides receiving the prizes set by the British Council, the winning team was also given the opportunity to take the internationally recognized Young Learners English language exam.
“We attach great importance to the spread of the ideas of the Olympics. It is very important for children and youth to bear those ideas. We have implemented several projects with the British Council and I hope we will see the results soon,” said newly appointed RA Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Hrachya Rostomyan.
The London Olympic Games will kick off on July 27 with more than 10,000 Olympic and nearly 4,000 Paralympic athletes. Eight million tickets will be sold during the Games. British athletes have been participating in all the games since 1896, and London has hosted the Olympic Games in 1908 and 1948.
As Minister Rostomyan assured, there was no problem with training and the provision of technical equipment. Rostomyan added that the ministry expected good results from all the athletes that have gained reputation in the Olympic Games.
